Abstract
Stannous pyrophosphate produces a virtually complete inhibition of Cr-51 binding to red cells both in vitro and in patients. This effect is counteracted by washing the red cells, suggesting that a chemical interaction between stannous pyrophosphate and chromium in plasma is responsible. The inability of Cr-51 to label red blood cells from three patients having blood-pool scans is presented.
