Abstract
Abstract The effect of chlorprothixene on the Na + -K + stimulated Mg 2+ ATPase of the cellular particulate fractions in the brain has been studied in an attempt to determine if there is a relationship between the antipsychotic properties and inhibition of the ATPase system. Chlorprothixene in concentration of 0.1–0.3 mM was demonstrated to be a potent inhibitor of Na + -K + Mg 2+ ATPase of heavy and light ribosomal fractions. The significance of the greater inhibition of ATPase by chlorprothixene relative to chlorpromazine and trifluoperazine is discussed.
