Abstract
and were studied both pharmacologically and clinically.2, 3 In 1943, studies with pentaerythritol tetranitrate in the treatment of angina pectoris were reported by Bjerlov.4 The most efficient and widely used of these compounds today is nitroglycerin. This is primarily because of its demonstrated therapeutic effectiveness and the ease and simplicity of its administration. Unfortunately, the duration factor of nitroglycerin is limited. Although amyl nitrite acts more rapidly, it is effective only by inhalation and its action persists for only a few minutes.
