Abstract
Abstract The reduction of 3-methyl-5-(p-ethoxyphenyl)-4-(N-2′-methoxyphenyl-p-sulphamyl benzene-azo)-pyrazole occurs in three irreversible, diffusion-controlled waves corresponding to the diprotonated (H2A2+), mono-protonated (HA+), neutral (A) and the anionic species (B−) over different ranges of pH. The diprotonated and the anionic species are reduced in four-electron steps while the mono-protonated and neutral species, in two-electron steps. Acid-base equilibria involved are presented and confirmed on the basis of electronic spectra. Course of electrode processes has been proposed.
