Abstract
The reduction of nickel by ethyl thioglycolate has been studied polarographically. The discharge of Ni2+ at the D.M.E. in ethyl thioglycolate solution has been found to be irreversible and diffusion controlled. The values of the kinetic parameters, formal rate constant, k 0 f, h , and transfer coefficient, α, of the electrode reaction has been evaluated by applying Koutecky’s theoretical treatment as extended by Meites and Israel. The values of ΔH, ΔG and ΔS calculated at 25°C are 2.57 kcal/mole, 10.19 kcal/mole and − 2.55 cal/degree respectively.
