Abstract
Abstract The compound potassium tetrakis(2-mercaptothiazolyl)borate was prepared and characterized in solution and in the solid state. The structure crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group F 4 3c (No. 219) with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In spite of the fact that two molecules are very similar enantiomorphs, the transformation relating the two moieties does not coincide with any of those belonging to the centrosymmetric super space group Fd 3 c (No. 228). The packing gives rise to big holes between the tetrakis(2-mercaptothiazolyl)borate anions, of mean diameter ∼9 A, which are filled by clusters of K+ and H2O.
