Abstract
Abstract Epoxy resins of 1,1′-bis(3,5-dichloro-4-hydroxy phenyl) cyclohexane (ERCl-1), 1,1′-bis(3-methyl-5-chloro-4-hydroxy phenyl) cyclohexane (ERCl-2), 1,1′-bis(3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxy phenyl) cyclohexane (ERBr-1) and 1,1′-bis (3-methyl-5-bromo-4-hydroxy phenyl) cyclohexane (ERBr-2) laminated on the basis of 50% glass cloth using 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (25% of resin) at 70–100 psi and 100–150°C for 6 h; and were post cured at room temperature for 12 h. The observed tensile strength, electric strength and volume resistivity of ERCl-1, ERCl-2, ERBr-1 and ERBr-2 laminates are: 136.9, 171.0, 172.9 and 181.4 MPa; 5.3, 3.9, 4.0 and 3.2 kV/mm and 2.0×10 15 , 2.2×10 15 , 12.0×10 15 and 1.4×10 15 Ohm·cm, respectively. Laminates possess comparatively low tensile strength and electric strength but excellent insulating properties as compared to some of the useful plastics. They also possess fairly good chemical resistance. The observed weight loss may be due to selective hydrolysis of ether or amine linkages and weight gain may be due to formation of quaternary salts of DDS.
