Abstract
D-biotin-d-sulfoxide can fulfill the growth requirement for E. coli mutants deficient in biotin biosynthesis. In vitro reduction of D-biotin-d-sulfoxide to biotin requires a protein cell-free extract and NADPH. Preliminary experiments suggest that more than one protein participates in the reaction.
