Abstract
Osseointegrated dental implants have gained popularity as the ‘gold standard’ in dental rehabilitation for lost teeth. An implant is considered as osseointegrated when there is no movement between the implant itself and the bone with which it has direct contact. This results in a functional and stable implant throughout its lifespan. Whilst rehabilitation of missing teeth with dental implants is often the obvious choice, other options exist. These include other types of dental prostheses, orthodontic closure of spaces and (rarely) tooth transplant. Such alternatives should be considered when discussing affordability, longevity and practicality of provision with each patient.
