Abstract
2-ethylhexanol, as an important chemical product,is synthesized by propylene carbonylation or alcohol-aldehyde condensation. Propylene carbonylation, as the predominating route, includes reaction of acryl and synthesis gas via oxo-synthesis to butylaldehyde, condensation and dehydration of butylaldehyde to 2-ethylhexenal, and hydrogenation of 2-ethylhexenal to 2-ethylhexanol. Four types of 2-ethylhexenal hydrogenation catalysts are used, i. e., Cu-Cr, Cu-Zn, nickel and noble-metal catalytic systems.Up to date, 2-ethylhexenal hydrogenation catalysts used in in China are mainly imported. Therefore, development of 2-ethylhexenal hydrogenation catalysts is the a challenge facing domestic researchers.
