Abstract
Ethambutol is the dihydrochloride salt of the dextrorotatory isomer of 2-2'-(ethylenediimino)-di-l-butanol. Specific antituberculosis activity has been demonstrated by laboratory evaluation.' * Extensive clinical trials have been conducted. In mice,' monkey^,^ and man' peak serum levels associated with therapeutic effectiveness have been found to be 3 to 5 Fg./ml. The data reported below were obtained in acute studies in rats and mice, chronic studies in dogs, and subacute studies in cats. Studies in dogs have been reported by Kaiser," Cappiello and Layton," and Vogel and Kaiser." Some of this published material is included here for completeness.
