Abstract
Abstract This work utilized sodium stearate (SS) to improve the surface properties of beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) particles by the combination methods of ball milling and mechanical stirring at 80 °C. The crystal structure of modified β-TCP (β-TCP–SS) remains unaffected in the presence of SS during ball-milling and mechanical stirring processing. SS coating with a layer of 1–2 nm were prepared on the β-TCP surface through chemical reaction between COO− and Ca2+. Compared with native β-TCP, the dispersibility of β-TCP–SS in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) and polylactic acid (PLA) were improved, while the biodegradation of β-TCP–SS was slightly impacted by the interaction between SS and β-TCP.
