Abstract
Crystal-chemical analysis of 65 compounds containing 108 crystallographic types of silver atoms incorporated in AgI n coordination polyhedra has been performed with the use of Voronoi-Dirichlet polyhedra and the intersecting spheres method. This analysis shows that silver atoms exhibit coordination numbers from 3 to 6 with respect to iodine atoms, the Ag-I bond length thereby ranges within 2.67-3.47 A. Silver atoms can also form one to four secondary bonds Ag-Q (Q = Ag, H, K, Rb, Cs). The crystal-forming role of silver atoms as a function of the number of coordinated iodine atoms and the nature of Q atoms is considered. Some results of analyzing the topology and geometry of [Ag a I b ] z - complexes in crystal structures are discussed.
