Abstract
3-Nitrocinnamaldehyde is an important intermediate for organic synthesis as well as a perfume in food, cosmetics and medicines.Benzaldehyde, the raw material, after the protection of the aldehyde group with ammonia formed m-nitrobenzaldehyde via intrification and hydrolysis. Then m-nitrocinnamaldehyde was synthesized by means of aldol condensation of m-nitrobenzaldehyde with acetaldehyde. The influences of various factors on the aldol condensation yield were investigated. The optimum reaction conditions were determined as follows:KOH as catalyst, the ratio n(m-NO2-C6H4CHO)∶n(KOH)=1∶0.032,the ratio n(m-NO2-C6H4CHO)∶n(CH3CHO)=1∶6.6,and reaction time 2h.The yield was over 54.9%.
The synthesis of 3-Nitrocinnamaldehyde using KOH catalyst, m-nitrobenzaldehyde, and acetaldehyde yields over 54.9%, making it an important intermediate for organic synthesis and perfumes.
