Abstract
Abstract A number of new azo disperse dyes were synthesized by coupling 4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine with diazonium salts derived from 4-methoxy aniline, N-(4-amino phenyl) acetamide, 3- and 4-methyl aniline, 2-trifluoromethyl aniline, 4-flouoroaniline, 4-cyanoaniline, 4-amino acetophenone, 4-nitroaniline, 2-bromo-4-methyl aniline and 4-amino azobenzene. Spectroscopic data of these dyes, dissolved in six polar solvents, were measured. The effects of acid, base, temperature and concentration on the visible absorption spectra of the dyes are also reported. The structures of all compounds were confirmed by FT-IR spectra, electronic absorption spectra in UV and visible regions, 1 H NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis. In addition, the antimicrobial activity of the dyes was examined in detail.
