Abstract
Methylphenyl)-2-oxoethyl isonicotinate is synthesized by reacting isonicotinic acid with 2-bromo-1-(4-methylphenyl)ethanone in the presence of a base. The structure is established by using elemental analysis, UV-Visible spectrum, FT-IR spectrum, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fast Atom Bombardment mass analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system with the space group P ī and with unit cell parameters a = 8.3852(11) A, b =8.7316(12) A, c = 9.8821(14) A, α = 94.069(7)° , β = 114.901(6)° , γ = 95.825(7)° and Z = 2. The molecular and crystal structure of the title compound is stabilized by inter-molecular interactions of the type C—H· · · O. The synthesized compound is also screened for its antimicrobial activity; the compound showed significant activity.
