Abstract
It has been found that gallein can be used as an indicator in the direct chelatometric titration of a number of metals. A method based on this fact has been devised for the chelatometric determination of cadmium with disodium salt of EDTA. The optimum pH for the titration was found to be 9.5 to 10. A buffer solution consisting of ammonia and ammonium chloride was used to keep the solution at this optimum pH in the titration. The color of indicator changed from violet to magenta red at the end point. No interference was observed in the presence of a variety of anions and univalent cations.
