Abstract
Mindfulness was defined by its initiator, Jon Kabat-Zinn as the wisdom and the heart of Buddhist meditation without the Buddhism bringing to the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally. Buddhist meditation is one of the Eightfold Paths belonging to the rich and complex Buddhist doctrines. It consist in sitting in silence calming the mind to attain enlightenment, and is practiced in monasteries by residing monks. Mindfulness as universally adopted is a 8 weeks program, including and followed by periods of mediation guided by an instructor. Some meditative exercises were later also integrated as home assignments into cognitive psychotherapy, as mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT).
Mindfulness is a practice that focuses on being present in the moment, without judgment, and can be integrated into various therapies, such as cognitive psychotherapy and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT).
