What Does the Research Say
What Does the Research Say
Students fact-check a social media claim with Consensus, check an AI summary against the original study, and revise the claim to fit the evidence.

Rachel Besing
Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, Brescia University

In this ready-to-use assignment, students pick a claim from social media, turn it into a research question, and use Consensus to compare it with what studies show. They check an AI summary against the original article and revise the claim to fit the evidence. Designed for her 400-level Research Methods course, with a 50-point rubric included. Adapted from an earlier Consensus assignment by Dr. Rachel Besing, Brescia University.
Download the PDF to hand out as is, or download the editable Word version to adapt it for your course. For example, you could add key concepts like the availability heuristic and confounds in psychology, or dose and study population in nutrition. Both versions are designed to meet accessibility standards.
