Abstract
Abstract Lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide reacts with thiobenzoyl chlorides by thiophilic addition to give 1,2-bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)amidosulfenyl]stilbenes. A carbenoid mechanism is proposed. The molecular structure of E-4,4′-dichlorobis[bis(trimethylsilyl)amidosulfenyl]stilbene was investigated by X-ray analysis and refined to an R-value of 0.038. The compound crystallizes in the space group P21/c with the cell parameters a 10.334(1), b 23.221(1), c 14.829(3) A and β 94.80(1)°. The SiN distance and the configuration of the bis(trimethylsilyl)amidosulfenyl groups exhibit a high degree of dπ-pπ interaction, which is in agreement with the high resistance to hydrolysis.
