Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the methods of preparation and chemical properties of 1,3-oxazine derivatives. One of the derivatives discussed is tetrahydro-1,3-oxazines. The methods employed for the preparation of tetrahydro-1,3-oxazines include cyclization, hydrogenation, or other addition to the double bond of unsaturated 1,3-oxazines, and N-substituted derivatives method. The preparations of oxo and thiono derivatives of tetrahydro-1,3-oxazine using cyclization are discussed. Another derivative of 1,3-oxazine discussed is 5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-oxazines and the methods used to prepare this derivative are cyclization, ring enlargement method, and reactions of 2-thione derivatives. Other derivatives discussed are 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-oxazines; 2,3-dihydro-6H-1,3-oxazines; 4H-1,3-oxazines; 2H-1,3-oxazines; 6H-1,3-oxazines; and 1,3-oxazinium (3-azapyrylium) salts. The chapter also discusses several practical applications of the derivatives of 1,3-oxazine derivatives, such as antibiotics, antitumor activity, antibacterials and antifungals, and antiprotozoal activity. 1,3-oxazines with an olefinic substituent can also be used as polymerizable monomer. It can be claimed as plasticizers for cellulose acetate, tanning agents, and corrosion inhibitors.
