Abstract
Treatment of 3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazine with potassium amide in liquid ammonia gives 3-amino-1,2,4-triazine, 3,3′-bis(methylthio)-5,5′-bi-1,2,4-triazine and 3-amino-3′-(methylthio)-5,5′-bi-1,2,4-triazine. In the 3-amino compound formed from 3-(methylthio)-[4-15N]-1,2,4-triazine, 93% of the 15N is present in the exocyclic nitrogen of the amino group. A SN(ANRORC) mechanism is proposed for this amino-de(methylthio)lation reaction.
