Abstract
Abstract The reaction of 1,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)hexa-1,3,5-triyne (1) with Ru3(CO)12 results in the formation of the butterfly cluster Ru4(CO)12(μ4-η1,η1,η2,η2-Me3SiCCC2CCSiMe3) (2) and the yellow binuclear complex Ru2(CO)6{μ-η2-η4-C(CCSiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)} (3). Both complexes contain pendant ethynyl ligands that are potential sites for further reactivity. In the case of reaction of 1 with the tetranuclear cluster Ru4(μ4-PPh)(CO)13 (4), the open chain molecule Ru4(CO)8(μ3-PPh)[μ4-η2,η4,η2,η4-(Me3SiCC)CC(CCSiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)C-CC(SiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)C(CCSiMe3)] (6) is formed, in which the co-ordination of a pendant ethynyl moiety has been realised.
