Abstract
Acetylacetone has been employed as both a chelating agent and solvent in solvent extraction studies. To determine the formation constants, the extraction behavior of seven acetylacetonates was studied. Allowing for the presence of charged intermediates, the successive formation consiants for nine acetylacetonates were calculated. These show close agreement with values obtained potentiometrically. In the case of copper(In acetylacetonate, theoretical calculation of the extraction curve over the pH range 0 to 5 has produced a curve that is duplicated in an experimentally obtained curve. (auth)
