Abstract
THIS communication presents work comparing the incorporation of 5-bromo-3-sec-butyl-6-methyluracil (I) (this compound, suitably formulated, is being offered for sale as a non-selective herbicide for non-cropland use; the generic name ‘Bromacil’ has been proposed for this compound; a paper, showing the antiphotosynthetic activity of 5-bromo-3-sec-butyl-6-methyluracil and related compounds, is in preparation) and 5-bromouracil (II) into the DNA of a thymine-requiring strain (15T−) of Escherichia coli.
