Abstract
1. When 2-methylthiophene is reated with with sulfuric acid of specific gravity 1.83820 (monohydrate) at 25–30° in presence of an indifferent solvent (petroleum ether), a new sulfonic acid—a methyl[methyl(methylthienyl)thienyl] thiophenesulfonic acid—is obtained in a yield of 36% (isolated as ammonium salt) or 46% (isolated as sodium salt). 2. The ammonium, sodium, barium, and p-toluidine salts of this sulfonic acid have been prepared and characterized.
