Abstract
Abstract 1. 1. Several ϵ-acyl- dl -lysines, such as acetyl, propionyl, n -butyryl, benzoyl, and carbobenzoxy derivatives, are oxidized by d -amino acid oxidase of pig kidney extract, and the oxidation is markedly stimulated by flavine adenine dinucleotide (FAD). 2. 2. ϵ-Acetyl- dl -lysine behaves similarly to dl -alanine in the enzymic oxidation with respect to its optimal pH and stimulation by FAD. 3. 3. d -Lysine markedly inhibits the action of d -amino acid oxidase on several d -amino acids such as alanine, phenylalanine, valine, and ϵ-acyllysine. The inhibition by d -lysine is competitive with the substrate amino acid for the oxidase.
