Abstract
Abstract The influence of specific magnetic susceptibility on hydrogen overvoltage of Ni based co-deposits has been investigated for a better understanding of the role of magnetic susceptibility in hydrogen evolution. The hitherto reports on a correlation between bulk solid state properties and electrocatalytic activity have portrayed a negative picture. Our results on four systems namely NiMoFe, NiMoFeMn, NiZnFe and NiMn electrodeposits demonstrate that in each of the systems studied, electrocoating with highest magnetic susceptibility exhibits best electrocatalytic activity. This behaviour has been explained by hypothesising the existence of a new class of particles called “magnesons”.
