Abstract
It has been demonstrated that concentrated sulfuric acid causes the polypeptide, poly-DL-serine (MW≈5000), to rearrange to the polyester, to the extent of 70 percent of the original number of amide bonds. The remaining hydroxyls of the serine residues become sulfonated.
