Abstract
Conclusions1.Diethyl dibromomalonate and diethyl bromomalonate add to vinyltrimethylsilane upon initiation by dibenzoyl peroxide to form the diethyl esters of (2-bromo-2-trimethylsilylethyl)-bromomalonic acid and (2-bromo-2-trimethylsilylethyl)malonic acid, respectively. The reactivity of diethyl dibromomalonate in this addition reaction is higher than for diethyl bromomalonate.2.Metal carbonyl initiation in this reaction is not very efficient. In the case of diethyl bromomalonate, reduction of the addend becomes the major reaction in the case of such initiation.
