Abstract
Plasma-polymerized 1,1,3,3-tetramethoxypropane (PPTMP) thin films of pale brown color were prepared using a capacitively coupled glow discharge reactor. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic investigation revealed that PPTMP thin films might have a certain amount of conjugation. Optical properties were investigated by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopic measurements on as-deposited and aged PPTMP thin films. From the optical absorption data, absorption coefficient and direct and indirect energy band gaps were calculated for the as-deposited unaged and aged PPTMP thin films. The aging effect on the structural and optical properties is also discussed. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Adv Polym Technol 2013, 32, 21347; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com.
