Abstract
SummaryThe effect of orciprenaline inhalation on gas exchange was studied in 27 patients with obstructive lung disease and 9 patients without airway obstructive lung disease and 9 patients without airway obstruction. Significant increases of AaDO2 and VD/VT were reccorded in patients with marked obstruction and marked hypoxemia. Decreases of arterial oxygen tension were more pronounced in patients with slight obstruction and slight hypoxemia than in patients with severe airway obstruction and arterial hypoxemia. In the latter group, gas exchange was partly improved by an increased alveolar ventilation after inhalation. In all groups of patients the average decrease in arterial oxygen tension never exceeded 5 mm Hg.
