Abstract
Materials. Poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (PEO, molecular weight = 5 000 g⋅mol, Fluka) was dried by azeotropic distillation with toluene before use and the number average degree of polymerization was checked by means of NMR (DPn = 111; Mn = 4 920 g⋅mol). Triethylamine (TEA) was distilled and stored over molecular sieves. Dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) was distilled from CaH2. Styrene, n-butyl methacrylate and n-butyl acrylate were distilled under vacuum before polymerization. 2-Bromo-2-methylpropionyl bromide (Alfa Aesar, 97 %), 2,2’-bipyridine (bipy, 99 +%, Acros), ascorbic acid (AA, 99.5 +%, Fluka), hexadecane (99 +%, Aldrich), copper(II) bromide (99 +%, Acros), copper(I) bromide (99.99 +%, Aldrich) were used as received without purification. Bis(2pyridylmethyl)octadecylamine (BPMODA) was synthesized following previously reported procedure. PEO macroinitiator was prepared by reacting the hydroxy-terminated PEO with 2-bromo-2methylpropionyl bromide according to a procedure described in the literature with TEA as a base.
