Abstract
Abstract The action of 4-amino pyridine on the afferent volleys and the intraspinal monoand polysynaptic circuits has been studied in the lumbar cord on the spinal cat. 4-amino pyridine provides a growth of the afferent volley amplitude and very likely an increase in motoneurone excitability. The convulsive power of this substance in the spinal cord seems to be related to the intense activation that it produces in the polysynaptic circuits. This activation may result from either an increased interneurone excitability or a recruitment of fibres.
