Abstract
Benzoylacrylic acid was obtained by reacting maleic anhydride with benzene via Friedel-Crafts reaction, in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride. If the temperature in the process was over 35℃, the addition reaction of [JG(]C[ZJLX,Y]C[JG)] in benzoylacryllactic acid with water would happen partly to form β-benzoyllactic acid in the strong acidic aqueous solution. Benzoylacrylic acid containing some β-benzoyllactic acid could both react with absolute ethanol in the presence of sulfuric acid to afford ethyl benzoylacrylate and ethyl benzoyllactate correspondingly. Heating the mixture in xylene, ethyl benzoylacrylate could be converted to ethyl benzoylacrylate. Thus the content of ethyl benzoylacrylate could increase from less than 85% to 93%.
