Abstract
Cinnarizine, or 1-(trans-cinnamyl)-4-diphenylmethylpiperazine, is a vasodilatator possessing antihistamine activity. According to the technological scheme developed at the Chemico-Pharmaceuticat Research Institute (Novokuznetsk), the main semiproducts used in the drug's synthesis are benzophenone (I), benzhydrol (II), benzhydryl chloride (III), benzhydrylpiperazine (IV), and cinnamyl chloride (V). The purpose of this work was to develop methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of semiproducts for the cinnarizine synthesis, which would allow a rapid stage-bystage monitoring of the process to be conducted. Taking into account that compounds I IV are rather volatile, we solved the task using gas chromatography (GC) techniques [1].
