Abstract
Triamcinolone acetonide is a water-insoluble and long-standing corticcxsteroid which strongly inhibits inflammation. It has been used as a potent anti-inflammatory agent for experimental proliferative vitreoretinopathy and intraocular neovascularization. Recently the intraocular injection of triamcinolone during a vitrectomy improves the visibility of the vitreous and the safety of surgical procedures and also inhibits the postoperative breakdown of the blood-ocular barrier. Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide which has also been used for treatment of refractory diabetic macular edema, chronic macular edema due to central retinal vein occlusion or inflammation, and exudative age-related macular degeneration. It is a promising therapeutic method and no uncontrollable complications have been noted. The long-term efficacy and safety need to further assessment.
