Abstract
The gas chromatographic behavior of the biguanides buformin hydrochloride, phenformin hydrochloride and phenylbiguanide has been studied. Under the thermal conditions of gas chromatography or mass spectrometry, the formation of substituted s-traizines (melamines) from these biguanides has been demonstrated. A gas chromatographic method for the quantitation of buformin hydrochloride is described. The lower limit of detection sensitivity was 0.1 μg buformin hydrochloride “on column”.
