Abstract
Abstract ‘Methyl purple′-β-galactoside (4a + 4b) exhibits a 137 nm color shift (454 → 591 nm), a Km of 0.075 mM and fast enzymatic hydrolysis at pH 7.4. The β-galactoside of ‘methyl purple’ is a new chromogenic substrate that exhibits a 137 nm color shift upon hydrolysis at pH 7.4, a Km of 0.075 mM and a kc a t of 1.2 x 104 mole min−1/mole of enzyme active site.
