Abstract
The search for drugs in the 1,2,5-thiadiazoles and condensed systems containing this ring has continued for 20 years. During this time, compounds have been found which act primarily on the central nervous system (CNS) and on organs innervated by the autonomic nerves, enhance the excretory function of the kidneys and modify tissue metabolism, and possess antimicrobial and antitumor activity. Information on these compounds, however, which has appeared in numerouspatents and journals, hashardly been mentioned in reviews [1-9] of advances in the chemistry of the 1,2,5-thiadiazoles and their condensed systems. The aim of this review is to survey and systematize the available information on this topic. Compounds active on the CNS are as follows: i. Hydrazides of 1,2,5-thiadiazole-3-carboxylic Acid (Ia-c), which are monoamine oxidase inhibitors [i0]
