Abstract
Abstract Compounds containing heteroatoms and their derivatives represent a very significant section in organic chemistry. A number of N-heterocycles such as triazole, thiazole, pyridine, pyrrole, quinoline, or imidazole as well as their derivatives have been commonly employed as recognition units for the synthesis of optical sensors beside their biological applications. In this category, pyrimidine derivatives are suitable objects for utilising as exquisite sensing materials and also have a range of biological and medicinal applications. The competence of pyrimidine derivatives to form both coordination as well as hydrogen bond makes them appropriate to be used as sensing probes. This review comprises of various pyrimidine based optical sensors with the recent literature from 2005 to 2020.
