Abstract
Abstract In this study, the biosorption characteristics of crystal violet (CV) from the aqueous solution onto treated ginger waste (TGW) were examined. The parameters studied were the effect of initial dye concentration, contact time, solution pH and temperature. The kinetic data obtained at different concentrations were analyzed using pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intra-particle diffusion models. The experimental data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The maximum monolayer biosorption capacity was found to be 64.93, 227.27 and 277.7 mg/g at 30, 40 and 50 °C, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters were evaluated and the positive value of ∆H 0 indicated endothermic nature of biosorption. The maximum breakthrough capacity was found to be 72.6 mg for 0.3 g TGW. Attempts were also made to regenerate the TGW using acetic acid as eluent.
