Abstract
Abstract Rib7 mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae produce and excrete 6-hydroxy-2,4,5-triaminopyrimidine. This labile substance was reacted with diacetyl or glyoxal prior to isolation, yielding 2-amino-6,7-dimethyl-4-hydroxypteridine and 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine, respectively. These compounds were isolated and characterized by chromatographic and spectrophotometric procedures. 6-Hydroxy-2,4,5-triaminopyrimidine or a carbohydrate derivative of this compound appears to be an intermediate in the biosynthesis of riboflavin.
