Abstract
tions with malononitrile used for therapeutic purposes (Serra, 1951; Serra & Severgnini, 1953). d) The importance of lipoic acid for the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid has been confirmed from the constant changes in human EEG, observed as frequent “photic driving” patterns (Serra & Ventra, 1957). The significance of these enzymic activations of the electrical response of the brain in intermittent photic stimulation is thoroughly disciissed (Serra, 1959, Serra & Ambrosio, 1961). From the comparative analysis of these results the degree of importance of various substances in activating the brain metabolism is emphasized. Their importance in conditioning the complex physico-chemical changes responsible a t cellular level for the continuous variations of electrical potentials is stressed. (Baronw. Serra & Lambiase, 1957; Mcllwain, 1955; Purpura & Grundfest, 1956).
