Abstract
Abstract Solvent plays an important role in synthesis of different cadmium complexes of 2,2′-[2-fluoro-phenylmethylidenebis(3,5-methyl-2-phenyleneoxy)]diacetic acid (H2L) in presence of pyridine (py). A mononuclear complex [CdL(py)2(H2O)] (1) was obtained when H2L was reacted with cadmium chloride in the presence of sodium hydroxide followed by treatment with pyridine in DMF as solvent. When same reaction was performed in dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), it led to dinuclear complex [Cd2L2(py)2(DMSO)2] (2); whereas similar reaction in methanol it gave a metallacycle [CdL(py)(H2O)]2·MeOH·py (3). A possible role of C–F⋯M in the formation of these complexes is proposed. Complex 3 converts to complex 2 when it was dissolved in DMSO in the presence of pyridine.
