Abstract
Derivatives of 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroand 2,3,4-hexahydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmacological activity. Compounds of this group possess antihistamine [1], neuroleptic [2], antiarrhythmogenic [3], antioxidant [4], and other properties. Some of these substances are used as medicinals. For example, diazoline and dimebone are known as antihistamine preparations, while carbidine is used as a neuroleptic drug [5]. Recently [6, 7] we demonstrated that some hydrogenated pyrido[4,3-b]indole derivatives exhibit pronounced neuroprotector properties. In view of the data concerning the calcium-antagonist behavior of dimebone [8, 9], it was also of interest to study the other hydrogenated pyrido[4,3-b]indole derivatives in this respect. For this purpose, we synthesized and studied a series of 2-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indoles (I) and the related tertiary salts (II):
