Abstract
Abstract The hydroxycarbonylation of bromobenzene has been explored in a biphasic medium. Water-soluble [Pd(TPPTS)3] (TPPTS=sodium salt of tris(3-sulphophenyl) phosphine) catalyses selectively this carbonylation reaction into benzoic acid. This complex is maintained intact in the presence of an excess of tris(3-sulphophenyl)phosphine salt. Even when a hydrogen donor is added, the reaction is limited to hydroxycarbonylation. The two complexes [Pd(Ph)Br(TPPTS)2] and [Pd(COPh)Br(TPPTS) 2] have been synthesized. A catalytic cycle is proposed.
