Abstract
Thiocolchicoside is a semisynthetic muscle relaxant obtained from colchicoside (colchico-glycoside) (1). Its chemical name is 2-demethoxy-2-glucosidoxythiocolchicine (Fig. 1). Thiocolchicoside has been used for many years orally, intramuscularly and intravenously as a decontractant and anti-inflammatory agent. It has clinical applications in neurology, orthopaedics, anaesthesiology and sports medicine. Thiocolchicoside is also used for endoarticular infiltration and has recently been used topically, because of its antioedematous and analgesic properties. It is usually well-tolerated both topically and systemically (2, 3), though some ill-defmed local intolerance has been mentioned (4). Patients sensitized to this substance after topical use should not be given it systemically, due to the risk of generalized eruptions. SHORTCOM~CATIONS
