Abstract
Abstract Cetirizine (2-(2-(4-(4-chlorophenyl)phenylmethyl)-1-piperazinyl)ethoxy)acetic acid dihydrochloride) (Fig 1) is the principal human metabolite of hydroxyzine (Fig 2), a member of the piperazine class of antihistamines. It is a selective H1 histamine receptor antagonist, which has been shown to be effective in the treatment of urticaria and allergic rhinitis.
