Abstract
Abstract The higher melting crystalline compound which can be obtained from the reaction of dichlorodiphenylsilane with lithium has been investigated with regard to its structure and reactivity. This compound is apparently identical with one isolated and described previously by F. S. Kipping and has been found to be dodecaphenylcyclohexasilane. The structure was indicated mainly through lithium cleavage of the cyclosilane followed by characterization of 1,6-dilithiododecaphenylhexasilane as its corresponding dimethyl derivative. Dodecaphenylcyclohexasilane was found to be very resistant to siliconsilicon bond cleavage by many reagents, with the exception of lithium, which had been previously shown to cause ring opening in other cyclosilanes.
